Some Shoes Become Like Old Friends

Some models of shoes are like old friends at this point in my career.

It was with great pleasure I recently purchased a new pair of Brooks Adrenaline GTS shoes, now in their 24th model year. Professionally referred to as “the baby beast”, inferring a slightly lighter weight model of its sibling model, The Beast. (aimed at achieving motion control in heavier individuals)

Interestingly, Brooks shoes took their first step 110 years ago in 1914 admittedly in ballet shoes, then sport specific and ultimately in 1972  running shoes became the company focus.

Certain models have remained cornerstones of their business throughout the years evolving gradually and forming a niche market with the podiatry world. The Beast, Addiction and Adrenaline, to name a few.

They participated in the evolution of running shoe design with kinetic wedges, motion control, hydrodynamic shock absorption, minimalism, and guide rail technology.

And like every other major brand, they set their mad chemists to design new mid-sole materials to outperform perform the competition in the form of DNA AMP and then DNA LOFT.

I’m not sure why but possibly their “lack of” or subtlety in aggressive marketing has always appealed to me. The quiet consistency of their product has kept me returning over the years. Accessibility to their shoes appears to be the greatest challenge when choosing Brooks, and as always, not every model in a brand’s line will be suitable for you.

Fortunately for those of you visiting Brantford Podiatry Associates, we in Brantford are blessed with an independent shoe store,  Al’s Shoe Factory.

Al’s is a local icon and carries a great selection of footwear, well-informed sales staff and pretty good pricing, not to mention a good selection of Brooks products.
