One dream. Hundreds of kilometres. Thousands of steps.
Some years ago, my boss, business and life partner, mentioned in passing that “one day I wanted to do the Camino de Santiago” in Spain. My response at the time was vaguely supportive: “Yeah, you should do that. It would be an amazing experience.”

Like many dreams, it quietly settled into the background amidst the daily bustle of raising children, running a business, and navigating life’s many responsibilities. It was never forgotten — just postponed.
Well, inspired by that long-held desire, the passage of time, and the many friends and patients we know who have completed similar adventures, Marilyn is finally doing it.

Starting Monday, May 25th, our intrepid adventurer will be away from the office as she and her soon-to-be-tired feet journey from Porto, Portugal, to Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Adding to the experience, our youngest son, Finn, having completed another year at university, will be accompanying her along the way.
We’re hoping that, if they still have enough energy left at the end of each day’s walk, Marilyn and Finn will share updates, observations, photos, and perhaps even a few professional insights into the effects that long-distance walking can have on the feet.

A surprising number of our patients — of all ages, abilities, and motivations — have completed the Camino de Santiago. There are almost as many variations of the route as there are reasons for undertaking the journey.
