Arthritic Foot and Ankle Care

Arthritic Foot and Ankle Care

It is impossible for us to reverse or change the degenerative processes associated with various forms of arthritis effecting the foot and ankle. We can however, help reduce the pain, minimize the progression and aid in rehabilitation both pre and post surgically.

Most forms of arthritic degeneration effecting the joints of the feet and ankles will be accelerated by poor structural mechanics. As in the case of Osteoarthritis, the root cause can be traced directly to poor biomechanical function and associated factors some environmental. In others cases the arthritic process is worsened or caused to “flare” up by the presence of biomechanical trauma. Too often the diagnosis of “arthritis” is delivered to explain joint pain and to be viewed as the precursor to surgical intervention, treatment limited to oral anti-inflamitories and avoidance of sporting activities.

Addressing these sources can often result in a cessation of pain, increased mobility and stability. As with everything, the path begins with through structural and functional examination. Once you have a clear understanding of your situation, then you can make an informed decision on which of the recommendation’s meets your needs, goals or aspirations.
