Children’s Foot Care

PodopediatricsĀ focuses on the treatment of children and the various conditions that affect a young person’s feet and lower limbs. Children with strong, healthy feet experience fewer problems with their lower extremities later in life.

One of the most frequent questions regard children we get asked is how do we know if we should book and appointment for our child.

Some situations are simple!. Pain is never normal, whether from a wound on the foot, inflamed nail bed, lumps, bumps or after activity. If a child is consistently avoiding activity, or experiencing foot or leg pain, that is an issue that needs to be investigated. Occasionally a parent who themselves have been diagnosed with structural functional issues are concerned that their children may have inherited the same issues. The advise we often give parents is to view their child standing bare foot and relaxed at home. Our eyes inherently are excellent at determining symmetry and normal versus abnormal. On a daily basis we assess and reassure parents that their children feet are developing within normal expectations and may require nothing more that footwear advise or modifications to certain activities. Where the opposite is the case we have the ability to assess, recommend treatment and monitor the childs progress to ensure the best possible outcome.
